Courses Overview
Class Levels and Dates
Class levels vary from beginning, for those with little or no musical experience, to advanced, for students who have been studying music for numerous years. All students move through the levels of beginning, intermediate and advanced classes on an individual basis. This allows for each student to progress at their own pace. Classes at all levels are available during each week at the discretion of the teacher.
Class Type | Description |
Beginning | Fundamental study of the Indian classical music. This will include its history in the North Indian traditions, the spoken language (oral tradition), learning basic strokes and foundation compositions. |
Intermediate | Students will build on their fundamental knowledge of music. |
Advanced | The Indian philosophy of Guru-Shishya Parampara (the direct transmission of knowledge from teacher to student) is never ending and on-going through one's life as a musician. As the standard of musicianship playing increases to this level, so does the mindset of the student. The term advanced or professional becomes relative as one is constantly humbled before the depth of the ocean that represents this art form. |
Each coarse will consist of a 4 month semester. Each student will get 4 classes of musical training per month. After the completion of each semester, an exam is available to each student for a nominal fee which is optional. Upon completion of a semester, Raga School of Indian Music provides a Certificate of Merit to the successful students.
As Raga School of Indian Music wants their students to practice and play better, our school is open to all our students, at various hours, to come and practice at no extra cost.
